The Elite VL TD recurve was introduced in 1991 and quickly became the benchmark of our bow line.
Since its introduction, thousands have been built and sold around the world. Although initially designed as a hunting bow, it has become a favorite among target and recreational archers as well—winning numerous tournaments and championships around the world.
In recent years, Blacktail has been recognized as an industry leader in design and innovation. Our foundational drive for constant quality improvement (CQI), has led to the introduction of new bow designs that have become very popular throughout our worldwide customer base.
The classic Blacktail Elite VL (originally produced in a 19" riser) was discontinued, and redesigned to the current 18" configuration, bringing it into the modern era of Blacktail’s elevated design and performance standards. Notable improvements resulting from the refined design include: increased riser strength, enhanced stability, reduced finger-pinch, reduced noise and a smoother drawing experience.

- 18” Overall riser length (resulting from the new curved centerline profile and grip-forward positioning)
- Super comfortable grip with a more forward handset in the riser to promote better stability.
- A new stronger riser design that incorporates our internal I-beam. This proprietary design optimizes stiffness and durability, which enables our industry leading lifetime riser warranty.
- Limb design that eliminates high stress areas promoting increased longevity.
- Smoother draw force curve with an overall reduction in noise over the older model.
- Limb profile and angulation to optimize preload for excellent speed and performance.
- Limp tips reinforced to accommodate the use of all modern high-performance string materials.
- Sight window cut 3/16 past center; allowing maximum clearance and accommodating traditional wood as well as modern carbon shafts.
- Generous sight window (5” from the shelf to the top).
- Radius arrow shelf (with the peak of the radius directly above the hand), accommodating minimal arrow friction, optimal sighting alignment and trajectory path.
Customizing your Elite VL
VL (which stands for "veneered limb") features highly figured veneers of your choice, applied over a standard tapered and laminated Bamboo core, backed with clear glass for a stunning combination. This composite limb system has proven practically indestructible.
The limb veneers can either match or contrast with your riser selection. The veneered limb design creates a limb that has better shooting characteristics than a standard 2 tapered core limb. It also allows the use of beautiful woods with high figure and grain patterns that in themselves may not have had the best bending characteristics, physical weight or shooting qualities. The risers are built with a wide selection of premium hand-selected, exotic hardwoods from around the world.
